Mr Gerry Mooney is a 3rd degree black belt certified by the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) and recognised in Ireland by the Irish Taekwon-do Association (ITA). Mr Mooney runs Clontarf TKD and also trains with Mr Niall Jones (VI Degree) at Killester Taekwon-do Club. Mr Mooney has won numerous INTA National and International Open titles. He has also medalled at other International, European and World Taekwon-do events including winning an overall best in division World Cup title in Italy in 2008. Mr Mooney has since gone on to win the World Cup for a second time in Hungary in 2016.
Mr Mooney is certified by the Irish Sports Council in Child Protection, Certificate number 22461 and is Garda Vetted by the Irish Martial Arts Commission. Mr Mooney is a Level 1 certified coach. The Level 1 coaching certificate is the minimum qualification required of instructors by the Irish Martial Arts Commission before an individual can be the lead instructor in a Taekwon-Do Club, and is accredited by Coaching Ireland and the Irish Sports Council. Coaches are educated in a range of topics including; Ethics, Pedagogy, Long Term Athlete Development, Mental Fitness, Flexibility, Teaching Skills, Teaching Tactics, Inclusion, Facilitation, Planning and much more. This is achieved through a blend of facilitated coaching and debriefing, distance learning tasks, home study and lectures.

Ms Rebecca Mooney is a first degree black belt certified by the International Taekwon-do Federation. Ms Mooney has won everything there is to win at National level including numerous National,International and Irish Cup titles. In 2012 Rebecca was number 2 in the World for her category after her fantastic silver medal winning performance as a colour belt in the patterns discipline at the ITF Taekwon-do World Cup in Brighton in October 2012. In 2014 Ms Mooney became the youngest ever student to be named in the Irish National squad and travelled to Italy to win bronze at the European Championships. In 2014 Ms Mooney won the European Cadet Cup in Budapest Hungary with a fantastic Gold in sparring and Gold in patterns. Ms Mooney works very closely with our 6-8 year olds to develop her own coaching skills and has brought many young students through our development program.
Ms Mooney came 3rd at the World Championships in Italy in 2015 and also went on to finish 3rd at the European Championships in Scotland the same year. In 2016 Rebecca went on to become European Champion, winning the title she had been chasing in Finland. Rebecca also beat the World Champion on the way to this fantastic victory. Rebecca is also a keen kickboxer and is a member of the current Irish Kickboxing Squad. She will compete in August 2016 in the WAKO World Championships.
Emma Mooney is a 10 year old blue belt and currently does a lot of work with the 3-5 yr old KUBZ program with Mr Mooney. Emma has a great relationship with the KUBZ and has great chats with them about the importance of some of the areas we discuss such as not keeping secrets and stranger awareness. Emma is a junior KUBZ instructor and does a great job with the KUBZ.
